Brief on the Kick off meeting and joint seminar for low carbon waste management in Bhutan

The National Environment Commission Secretariat (NECS) in collaboration with Green Technology Centre, Anyang University and Ecowill Plus of South Korea conducted the Kick-off meeting and joint seminar on Low Carbon Waste Management Project on 25 th September 2019 at Rochog Pel Resort,
Thimphu.
The project aims to improve the existing waste management and to prepare integrated master plan for sustainable MSW management that can contribute to the Nationally Determined Contribution of Bhutan. The meeting discussed about the technology demonstration on high-efficient recycling,development of national guidelines for Waste Drop-Off Center/Landfill Reclamation/Incineration and capacity development in sound waste management.

Presentations on designing sustainable ISWM, improvement of integrated solid waste management,medical waste management, sustainable landfill reclamation technology and status and advancement plan of waste management in Thimphu and Wangdue Phodrang Dzongkhags were made by the experts from South Korea and officials from NECS, Dzongkhag and Thromde Administrations.
More than 50 participants comprising of officials from different government sectors, municipalities and private entities attended the meeting.
It is one of the outcomes of the MoU signed between Ministry of Science and ICT, Republic of Korea and the National Environment Commission, Royal Government of Bhutan. Project is supported by the Ministry of Science and ICT, Republic of Korea.
