LDC Group Chairmanship

With strong scientific evidence brought by the IPCC on the effects of global warming, the urgency for all countries to step up and address the climate crisis now has never been clearer. The successful adoption of the implementation guidelines for the Paris Agreement in December 2018 in Katowice has provided a good basis to start turning commitments into concrete policies, laws and systems. Yet it is clear that more ambition and early and bold action are badly needed to achieve crucial results in time. We also need to see greater levels of climate finance provided to support poorer countries in adapting to climate change, addressing loss and damage, and in leapfrogging to low-carbon development pathways.
This is why the LDC Group is looking forward to taking part in high-level political and technical events in 2019 and 2020, where it will continue to offer leadership and cooperation to limit global temperature increases to 1.5°C and to work with our partners across the world to implement concrete actions that will be felt back home in our communities.
