“National Adaptation Plan process in focus: Lessons from Bhutan”
NEC is leading Bhutan’s process to address impacts of climate change in the medium to long term under the National Adaptation Plan (NAP) process. This process to formulate and implement NAPs was launched under the UNFCCC and is being taken up by developing countries to address the adverse impacts of climate change. The objective of the NAP process is to increase climate resilience and integrate climate change adaptation into development.
NEC is leading this process in Bhutan as the national focal agency for climate change and national agency mandated to integrate and facilitate environmental issues into national plans, policies and in actions by stakeholder agencies. NEC with support of UNDP is accessing funding from the Green Climate Fund for formulation of Bhutan’s first NAP and build and strengthen enabling environment required for a continuous and iterative NAP process
