The National Environment Commission Secretariat in collaboration with UNDP/UNEP PEI organized a half day workshop with all the relevant stakeholders on 22 July 2016 in Thimphu to discuss on the Strategic Environment Assessment on National Capital Region. The workshop was Chaired by Secretary of NECS.
Based on NECS request, Korean Environment Institute (KEI), South Korea proposed a mission from 20th to 23rd July 2016 to understand the needs, gaps and discuss the way forward on SEA. During their visit, the six-member team met with GNHC, MoWHS and Thimphu Thromde.
During the mission, the NECS in consultation with UNEP, UNDP Bhutan and KEI scheduled a half day consultation workshop with all the relevant sectors and SEA task force member to discuss on SEA of the National Capital Region.
NECS shared the experiences of the two SEAs conducted in Bhutan followed by presentation by Thimphu Thromde on the Thimphu Structural plan. The KEI experts presented and shared their experiences and expertise on SEA.
The workshop agreed on the importance of SEA and most of the participants also felt that this SEA is very timely since the Thimphu Structural Plan is also in need of review, besides several issues that are emerging outside the city boundaries.
