The Water Resources Coordination Division conducted the Wangchhu Water Security Index (WWSI) Report Workshop from March 4-5, 2020. The workshop was held in order to re-sensitize the participants on the WWSI system and the results of 2018 data collection which was undertaken by the Dzongkhag and Thromde Data Collection Committees of the Wangchhu Basin. The participants included Environment, Planning and Statistical Officers of Chukha, Dagana, Haa, Paro, Thimphu and Thimphu Thromde along with officers from the National Statistical Bureau.
The WWSI system is an online system launched in 2019, which helps assess the water security in the Wanghhu basin in terms of five key dimensions namely: 1) Rural water security, 2) economic water security, 3) urban water security, 4) environmental water security, and 5 disaster and climate change resilience.
During the workshop the overview of the WWSI system was presented,; the water quality standards and water quality monitoring results 2019 for Wangchhu basin was presented; and the framework and data for WWSI 2018 report were discussed. The participants then undertook data validation and clarification for WWSI 2018.
