Training on assessment of climate risks on water resources

The Water Resources Coordination Division (WRCD) of the National Environment Commission Secretariat (NECS) conducted a training on “Assessment of climate risks on water resources” from May 12-16, 2022 at Paro, as part of the project Preparation of a National Adaptation Plan (NAP) for Bhutan, with a focus on the water sector’The project is being undertaken under the auspices of the Royal Government of Bhutan – Green Climate Fund – United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The training was attended by officials from the Department of Hydropower and Power Systems and Department of Industries under Ministry of Economic Affairs, Druk Green Power Corporation and the NECS.

During the training, the participants were introduced to climate and hydrological modelling, the W-flow model, bottom-up assessment approach for vulnerability analysis and hotspots identification, evaluation frameworks and implementation of adaptation strategies. In addition, exercises and hands-on training were carried out for hydrological modelling using the W-flow model and for evaluation of the adaptation options.
