Meeting on “Comprehensive assessment of water resources including both quality and quantity” Project

The Water Resources Coordination Division, National Environment Commission Secretariat (NECS) coordinated a meeting on September 27, 2022 to discuss on a) Groundwater assessment report for Gelephu, Sarpang Dzongkhag, b) Undertaking groundwater assessment for Samdrup Jongkhar Dzongkhag, c) Add another site for groundwater assessment (CNR), and d) Discuss the way forward for surface water assessment.

Training workshop on E-flow unit V: E-flow survey methods

As a part of the project titled ‘Study on Minimum Environmental (E) Flow for Hydropower Projects in Bhutan- Final Phase’, the Water Resources Coordination Division is conducting a training workshop on practical components of Unit V: E-flow survey methods from September 15-18, 2022 in Punakha. So far, we have successfully completed training on Unit I, Unit II, Unit III, Unit IV, Unit VI, Unit VII, unit VIII and unit IX of the nine units under the E-flow module.

Training workshop on E-flow unit VI: 2D hydrodynamic modelling, and unit VIII: Aquatic habitat modelling

As a part of the project titled ‘Study on Minimum Environmental (E) Flow for Hydropower Projects in Bhutan- Final Phase’, the Water Resources Coordination Division is conducting a training workshop on Unit VI: 2D hydrodynamic modelling for habitat simulations, and Unit VIII: Aquatic habitat modelling for E-flow Assessment from September 1-6, 2022 in Punakha.

Training workshop on E-flow unit VII: Fish ecology, and unit IX: Socio-economic & cultural aspects

The Water Resources Coordination Division is conducting a training workshop on Unit VII: Fish ecological aspects of E-flow, and Unit IX: Social, Economic and cultural aspects of E-flow from August 22-27, 2022 in Thimphu, as a part of the project titled ‘Study on Minimum Environmental (E) Flow for Hydropower Projects in Bhutan- Final Phase’.

Write-shop for development of Sandbox project proposal under the Water Roadmap

As per the Royal Command, the Water Resources Coordination Division of National Environment Commission Secretariat (NECS) conducted a write-shop from August 8-12, 2022 in Thimphu to develop a Sandbox project proposal to pilot the implementation under the Water Roadmap.

The Water Resources Coordination Division conducted the 6th Project Steering Committee (PSC) meeting for the project ‘Study on Minimum Environmental (E) Flow for Hydropower Projects in Bhutan – Phase II’ on August 10, 2022.

Training workshop on E-flow unit IV: Sediment Transport

The Water Resources Coordination Division is conducting a training workshop on Unit IV Sediment Transport– from July 25-29, 2022 in Thimphu, as a part of the project titled ‘Study on Minimum Environmental (E) Flow for Hydropower Projects in Bhutan- Final Phase’. Of the nine units under the draft E-flow module, so far we have successfully completed Unit I, Unit II, Unit III and some portions of Unit V, VI and VIII.

Hands-on demonstration of E-flow equipment
