Part one of UN Biodiversity Conference closes, sets stage for adoption of post-2020 global biodiversity framework at resumption in 2022

The first part of UN Biodiversity Conference (COP-15) was held virtually from 11 to 15 October, 2021. The conference opened with the transfer of the Presidency of the Conference of the Parties by Egypt to the People’s Republic of China.The Conference which also included a High-Level Segment saw the creation of Kunming Biodiversity Fund, adoption of Kunming Declaration and building political impetus for adoption of ambitious post- 2020 global biodiversity framework.

Asia-Pacific Regional Ozone2Climate Art Contest In commemoration of the World Ozone Day, 2021

  1. Background

16 September has been proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly as the International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer (World Ozone Day), commemorating the date of the signing of the Montreal Protocol on 16 September 1987.  World Ozone Day has been celebrated annually around the world to draw the public’s attention to the importance of ozone layer protection and achievements from implementing the Montreal Protocol.

Water Resources Assessment 1st Taskforce meeting

The Water Resources Coordination Division conducted the 1st Taskforce meeting for the project Comprehensive Assessment of Water Resources targeting both the quantity and quality of water”. The project is being undertaken under the auspice of the Royal Government of Bhutan – Green Climate Fund – United Nations Development Programme Project “Preparation of a National Adaptation Plan (NAP) for Bhutan, with a focus on the water sector”, from July 2021 to April 2023.
